Did you know that stainless steel is a ferrous alloy that contains iron and a small amount of nickel that is alloyed into it? This stabilizes the  iron and it’s magnetic properties. Stainless is a popular choice in restaurants for equipment and cooking/eating utensils. The reason is because stainless steel  is non-porous therefore preventing the harboring of bacteria. One other key ingredient in stainless steel is that it contains chromium which is great for it’s sanitary properties. This also gives stainless it’s shiny appearance and helps to protect the metal from rust. Did you know aluminum recycling, brass recycling, copper recycling and stainless steel recycling are the most common non ferrous markets?

Stainless Steel Prices

Scrap stainless steel prices are  usually determined  on the percentage of nickel in the product. Stainless has over 150 different types of alloys, but at most less than 20 are commonly used, when recycling scrap stainless steel expect it to be 304 at least 90% of the times. Incoloy which should not be confused with Inconel is of the stainless family and is worth slightly more than 304 stainless, common alloys are Incoloy 800 and Incoloy 825.
